Flying to Abu Simbel at a glance
Abu Simbel has an airport with the code ABS. A flight saves the long desert drive from Aswan, which takes about 3.5 hours each way by road. The timetable for the period from 30 October 2026 lists three EgyptAir flights between Aswan (ASW) and Abu Simbel on Monday to Saturday, planned at 45 minutes. From Cairo (CAI) there is one flight on the same days, with one stop on the way and a planned 2 hours 40 minutes.
These are planned frequencies and not a promise of seats or operation on a given date. Check the current timetable before you book, and make sure the flights you pick leave enough hours at the temples.

There is no nonstop flight from Cairo, and there is no daily service. The prices of single tickets change too often to list here. Look up the fare for your date and check what the ticket includes, such as baggage.
For most visitors based in Aswan, a guided road day trip is the plan that is easiest to arrange. Choose the flight if you find a timetable with a return that fits, or if you stay the night in Abu Simbel.
Abu Simbel airport and transfers
What to arrange before you land.
The airport
The airport at Abu Simbel offers transfers to the temples and the hotels, as well as taxis and rental cars. The terminal is small.
From the airport to the temples
Arrange your transfer before you land, either through your tour or with a taxi. Do not assume that an airline shuttle or a free transfer is included in your flight ticket. Ask for the fare and the driving time when you book.
Return flight and time at the temples
The outbound and the return flights of a day trip need to fit together. Check that you arrive early enough, that the return leaves late enough, and that the last entry to the temples is at 16:00. If the times do not fit, an overnight stay solves the problem.
Where to stay →Heat, sandstorms and the timetable
What can change your flight day.
Heat
Average daily highs in Aswan stay above 41 °C from June to August and are about 23 to 25 °C from December to February. Abu Simbel has no measuring series of its own, so use the Aswan figures as a guide only.
Best time to visit →Sandstorms
Sandstorms with reduced visibility are a risk in Egypt, in particular in spring. That is a general note and not a warning for Abu Simbel. It is one more reason to leave a buffer in your plans.
Timetable periods
The flight numbers stay the same from one period to the next, but the planned times and days change. The figures on this page are for the period from 30 October 2026. Check the period that covers your date.
Cairo day tours by plane
A long day with a flight and a drive.
One Cairo operator offers a 15-hour program. It flies you to Aswan, then continues by car to Abu Simbel, returns to Aswan by car and flies back to Cairo. So "by plane" here means the flight to Aswan, not necessarily a flight all the way to the temples. Some offers include flights directly to Abu Simbel, so read the itinerary before you pay.
| Group size | Price per person, October to December 2026 |
|---|---|
| 1 person | $743 |
| 2 to 4 people | $654 |
| 5 to 7 people | $549 |
| 8 to 14 people | $531 |
This is a package price, not the price of one flight. Ask about availability before you plan around it. More about very long trips is on the page for tours from Luxor and Cairo.
